History Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority was established in 1968 by a group of local businessmen to plan and develop affordable rental housing opportunities for residents of the Ravenna area. In 1977 PMHA began administering federal housing programs, beginning with the Section 8 rental housing assistance program, and then following with the first public housing developments in Ravenna and Kent. Today, PMHA serves all of Portage County.
Board PMHA is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio and is governed by a 5-member Board of Commissioners appointed for five year terms by local elected officials. The current board consists of:

Recognition and Awards PMHA has received numerous commendations and recognition for its operations and achievements. HUD has consistently designated PMHA's public housing program a "high performer" under its evaluation system. As a result of this consistent strong performance, HUD selected PMHA in 1997 to operate as a "Moving to Work" demonstration site. Other awards include a HUD Best Practice Award for transitional housing, a NAHRO National Award of Merit for Program Innovation, an Ohio Governor's Award for Excellence for Innovative Partnerships, and a HUD Field Office Award for implementing its Section 8 Homeownership Program.
In addition, PMHA has consistently received financial audit reports containing no audit findings. The most recent audit report, for the year ending December 31, 2007, is available.
Office Hours and Location PMHA offices are open Monday through Thursdays from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except for holidays. While administrative offices are closed on Fridays, maintenance calls are answered and addressed on Fridays and after hours. Office visitors are advised to call ahead for an appointment whenever possible. The PMHA office is handicap accessible. Map for PMHA Offices
