Resident Programs

Overview
PMHA has programs and activities designed to help households move from needing housing assistance to financial self-sufficiency.  The combination of secure, affordable, safe housing and opportunities for self-sufficiency can be very effective in helping people fully realize their potential.

Family Self Sufficiency
Participants in the Housing Choice Voucher Program have the opportunity to participate in the Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program. Under the FSS Program, participants enter into a contract with PMHA, set short-term and long-term goals and work to achieve self-improvement in pursuit of the end goal: economic independence. While the family works towards success, increases in earnings result in money being deposited into an escrow account on behalf of the family. Upon successful completion of the program, the family is awarded the escrowed funds.  Families have graduated with escrow accounts ranging from a few hundred dollars to as much as $13,000, all savings that would have been lost had the families involved chosen to not be involved in the FSS Program.  For more information, contact the FSS Coordinator at (330) 297-1489, ext. 240.

Homeownership Lobby Lab
Public Housing and Section 8 residents can utilize the PMHA Homeownership Lobby Lab, located at the PMHA offices in Ravenna Township.  Open from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Mondays through Thursdays, the lab provides users with free Internet and computer access, books on self-sufficiency and homeownership topics for use at the lab and other materials that are free to take home.  For more information on the Homeownership Lobby Lab, call (330) 297-1489, extension 240.

Resident Job Training
Residents of Public Housing have the opportunity to participate in on-the-job training for maintenance positions within PMHA.  This training offers residents the opportunity to earn income, learn from PMHA employees and get opportunities to test that new knowledge out in actual work situations, including housing rehabilitation and repair work.
