Rental Vouchers PMHA offers two types of rental vouchers. Regular Moving to Work vouchers permit people to rent privately-owned housing throughout Portage County at affordable, income-based rates. Mainstream vouchers provide the same service, but are targeted to the needs of low-income persons with disabilities.
Homeownership Besides helping families obtain affordable rental housing, the Housing Choice Voucher Program also has a home ownership component. Instead of assisting families with their monthly rental payments, qualifying households receive monthly assistance in making mortgage payments if their home was purchased through the PMHA Homeownership Program.
An article on the PMHA Homeownership Program appeared in "Bright Ideas," a magazine published by NeighborWorks. The article is available online under "Feature Stories" in the Winter 2002-2003 issue.
Family Self Sufficiency Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) permits program participants the opportunity to build assets through a PMHA-administered escrow account. As families make economic progress and accomplish goals, their income and rental costs will rise. PMHA puts funds into a savings account on the behalf of the FSS participant's behalf. When the family completes their goals, they can receive the amount of the escrow account plus the interest it earned during the program.
