Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority provides housing assistance to low-income persons and families through Federal housing programs.  This aid helps families and individuals live in decent, safe and affordable housing while they strive for greater economic self-sufficiency.

In addition to housing assistance, PMHA collaborates with non-profit and government agencies to offer opportunities for an improved quality of life, regardless of age, race, color, disability or religion.  These opportunities include supportive services, specialized housing for persons with disabilities, homeless male veterans, senior citizens and families with children.

PMHA hosted its first annual Homeownership & Self Sufficiency Fair at the Kent State University Student Center Ballroom on November 1, 2007.  The event attracted nearly 200 participants to hear speakers discuss topics ranging from fair housing and other legal issues to credit repair and homeownership opportunities available today.

In addition to being able to hear from scheduled speakers, attendees were able to visit exhibitor booths that included Caretenders, Catholic Charities of Portage County, Century 21 Prestige Realty Group, Child Health Services, Community Action Council, Community Legal Aid, Consumer Credit Counseling, DC Home Inspection, Even Start, Fair Housing Contact Service, Family & Community Services, Habitat for Humanity of Portage County, Portage Private Industry Council Head Start, Help Me Grow, Key Bank, Mental Health & Recovery Board, National College, Neighborhood Development Services, OSU Extension Office, Portage Community Bank, Portage County Department of Job & Family Services, Portage Workforce Connection, Primerica, Professional Eye Home Inspection, Townhall II, United Way of Portage County, US Bank, USDA Rural Development, WECO Fund, and the Women, Infants and Children's Program of Portage County.
